ICAS Convention, Las Vegas, December 2016

We always look forward to our annual trips to Las Vegas for the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) Convention. This year’s convention was held at the Rio Hotel, December 6-9.

While Las Vegas IS a great place to visit, and offers such a variety of entertainment options, the BEST part of this trip isn’t the location at all. Catching up with old friends, making new ones, and enjoying the camaraderie that exists among all of us in this niche industry…. this is what it’s really all about.  The energy is electrifying, and  we always come away with new ideas and exciting opportunities. This year was the best ever!

This year we were pleased to secure a very special piece of aviation art for our Free Raffle at our booth on the convention floor.  Steven Greenwald Galleries of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, donated this beautiful painting by Frank Martin. IMG_3119It’s called T-6 #2, and you can find it, and the rest of this fabulous collection, on the gallery website.  Our good friend Jacquie Warda, of Jacquie B Airshows, drew the winning ticket, IMG_1087 2and the prize went to Luke Carrico. Luke is an air show announcer that we’ve had the privilege of working with in the past. Luke was attending ICAS for the very first time. He said he was thrilled to have this great piece to take home as a souvenir for his office wall.

We had a Monster Splash!

We’ve told you before how much fun we always have in Tavares, and our recent visit for the Monster Splash In, Oct 24, was no exception.DSC_2483
It was a perfect day to enjoy some lakeshore breezes, meet some new people, relax in Wooten Park, and enjoy the fun. This years’ event included boat racing in the afternoon, so it was really a full day. We hope you enjoy the pictures here, and maybe you’ll come join us next April, or in October 2016. It’s always a great day by beautiful Lake Dora.

An Air Show Homecoming!

DSC_2208Eastman Georgia’s claim to fame is Middle Georgia State University, which houses Georgia’s only public university Aviation School. Their homecoming event isn’t your typical football game. No, it’s an Air Show! I wonder how many universities can boast of having their own Air Show?

The people here at the Heart of Georgia Regional Airport worked with the University to pull off a great event, despite the early lack of cooperation from Mother Nature. But the skies cleared just in time to get it done, and we had a blast.

Our scheduled inclued the Silver Wings Jump Team from Ft. Benning, but unfortunately, the ceilings were just too low for their part of the show. Hopefully, we’ll get them back for next year!

Introducing – America’s Sea Plane City!

We discovered a really great little town in central Florida a few years back. Tavares. It’s a beautiful setting. How could we have lived in Florida for so many years, and missed out on a spectacular little gem like this?Document

Tavares REALLY has it all. Small town charm, gorgeous lakes, friendly people, and an active Community Development
Board that’s always finding new ways to make Tavares even more special.  There is nothing sleepy about this small town.

But it’s Tavares biggest claim to fame that makes it even more special for us. Tavares is America’s Seaplane City! DSC_0035

Situated on the shores of Lake Dora is Wooten Park, home to a busy little sea plane basin where the action is nonstop.  It’s a seaplane pilot’s dream. The friendly people at the Tavares Seaplane Base and Marina (an FAA certified airport) will take good care of your precious seaplane, or your boat, while you enjoy the bounty of nearby activities and dining opportunities. Leesburg International Airport is just down the road if you prefer landing on a strip! There’s something for everyone.

IMG_0738 - Version 2Tavares hosts a really great air show and two Splash-In’s a year.   Planes, Trains and BBQ in April is their premier event. What could be better pairing an air show with a BBQ Truck Competition?  Throw in a ride on the Orange Blossom Cannonball, and an hour or two for the kids at the Children’s Splash Park, and you’ve got a complete family vacation in a weekend.  All within easy walking distance of lodging and restaurants. For us, these are great adventures, and the fun far outweighs the work. We always look forward to these weekends and renewing the friendships we’ve build with the people of Tavares.  We’d love to see you at our next event!

See all that Tavares has to offer at tavares.org
